The idea for Recess came about like most ideas or inventions--through pure necessity. On a fateful Thursday in June 2010, Acxiom associate, Leah Phelps was moving from one row to another to be closer to a fellow team member, Tram Nobles. The new row was quite desolate. There were two other associates from different teams on the same row, but some days they were working remote. Needless to say, the row needed a little "somethin’, somethin’" as the youth of the day would say.
On the day of the move, Tram threw Leah a cube warming party and brought a dessert to welcome her teammate to the row and to liven the place up a bit. Jayna Peterson, a fellow cube neighbor was also there to partake in the festivities. As the three ladies were enjoying the Strawberry Shortcake Delight, the ladies all looked up at one another and knew that this fun was meant to be had every week. And so began Recess. You don't have to be apart of any club. You just have to sign up to bring a dessert one week out of the year. Every Thursday, someone brings a dessert or sweet snack to be shared amongst their fellow 11th floor River Market associates. It's a borrowed concept from our elementary school years when recess provided a break from the day’s work, to enjoy a little sweet snack and have a little camaraderie with fellow associates. Today, Recess time inlcudes associates from the 11th floor and various other floors as well as folks from Conway locations. Visitors are encouraged to join in on the fun.
